Title:	In search of one’s own evaluation criteria: The case of Mexican higher education

Description:	In Mexico, the evaluation and assessment of teaching and learning of English as a foreign language is all too often undertaken by international examination boards. This paper examines the administration of language testing in the local context of Guadalajara, Mexico, and explores how testing could be developed to respond to local needs. By revisiting the concept of linguistic imperialism, I attempt to establish a framework for a mode of evaluation could be structured more closely to students’ needs and wants. En México, la evaluación de la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera es llevada a cabo con demasiada frecuencia por las juntas internacionales de exámenes. Este trabajo examina la administración de pruebas de lenguaje en el contexto local de Guadalajara, México, y explora cómo podrían desarrollarse pruebas para responder a las necesidades locales. Al revisar el concepto de imperialismo lingüístico, intento establecer un marco para un modo de evaluación que podría estructurarse más estrechamente a las necesidades y deseos de los estudiantes.
