Description: | The world population continues to increase and this implies that the demand for food is also increasing, which is why world trends focus on developing and implementing agri-food systems that are highly efficient, sustainable and whose impact on the environment is lower, such as aquaculture. In Mexico, aquaculture is the productive sector that has presented the highest average annual growth rate (10.29%) in the last 10 years, unlike livestock (2.6%) and agriculture (1.4%). This paper seeks to contextualize the main factors that affect the aquaculture sector in Mexico, as well as to highlight the main challenges faced by the sector in the search for its consolidation, towards the goal of achieving food security. |
