| Description: | This paper highlight the usefulness the value of the analysis of various functions that linguistic constructions perform in discourses. A description and explanation of nominalization uses in a scientific articles corpus is made. The following uses are distinguished: 1) linguistic economy, 2) an indication of ignorance of semantic roles, 3) ideological intention of omitting information, 4) objectivity effect and 5) cataphoric and anaphoric reference. Within the anaphoric uses, there are these ones: a) maintenance and reification of a reference and b) profiling a particular instance of a process. The analysis of a scientific articles corpus shows that these uses are actually occurring in texts. This also make possible to propose a function more of nominalization: the metalinguistic one. Este trabajo resalta la utilidad del análisis de las funciones que cumplen las diversas construcciones en los discursos. Se presenta una descripción y explicación de los usos de la nominalización en un corpus de artículos científicos. Los usos que se distinguen son los siguientes: 1) economía lingüística, 2) indicación del desconocimiento de datos argumentales, 3) intención ideológica de omitir información, 4) efecto de objetividad y 5) referencia anafórica y catafórica. Dentro de los usos anafóricos, se encuentran: a) mantenimiento y reificación de un referente y b) perfilamiento de una instancia concreta de un proceso. El análisis de un corpus de artículos científicos demuestra que estos usos se dan efectivamente en los textos, a la vez que permite proponer una función más de la nominalización: la metalingüística. |
