Title:	Handicap: Impedir o compensar. Dos traducciones de “Harrison Bergeron”

Description:	“Harrison Bergeron” is one of Kurt Vonnegut Jr.’s most famous short stories. It has sometimes been reduced to a story with an easy to understand moral that can be used as an ideological tool. Two translations of “Harrison Bergeron” — which present distinct differences between them— were published in Mexico in the 1970s. The following paper conducts a contrasting analysis of the two translations using the concept of deforming forces or tendencies that Antoine Berman proposed in his article “The analytic of translation and the system of deformation”. Berman believes that no translation is free of these forces; since they act in the translator in an unconscious manner and skew the translation from its pure objective. The purpose of this analysis is to show the areas where these forces act in the texts and to observe how they influence the reading of these translations. “Harrison Bergeron” es uno de los relatos de ciencia ficción más conocidos de Kurt Vonnegut Jr., el cual ha sido reducido en ocasiones a una historia con una moraleja simplista con fines ideológicos. En la década de los años setenta se publicaron dos traducciones en México de “Harrison Bergeron”, las cuales presentan diferencias marcadas entre ellas. El presente trabajo realiza un análisis contrastivo de las dos traducciones utilizando el concepto de fuerzas o tendencias deformantes que Antoine Berman desarrolló en su artículo “La analítica de la traducción y la sistemática de la deformación”. Berman considera que ninguna traducción está libre de éstas, pues actúan de manera inconsciente en el traductor y desvían la traducción de su objetivo puro. El propósito del análisis es mostrar los puntos sobre los cuales actúan estas fuerzas en los textos y observar cómo influyen la lectura de las traducciones.
