| Description: | This paper outlines the existence of a polyphony of voices in the short story “Woman Hollering Creek” by Sandra Cisneros. Polyphony, a concept developed by Bakhtin, intends to explain the complex network of voices that comeinto play in a text. Given the multi and transcultural nature of Chicana literature, this theory promises to be particularly useful in representing this literature’s unique qualities, both in terms of content and form. Concepts taken from Systemic Functional Linguistics are used to uncover the ubiquitous polyphonyin the corpus. Este trabajo demuestra la existencia de una polifonía de voces en el cuento corto “Woman Hollering Creek” de Sandra Cisneros. La polifonía, un concepto desarrollado por Bajtín, pretende explicar la compleja red de voces que intervienen en un texto. Dado el carácter multi- y transcultural de la literatura dechicanas, esta teoría promete ser particularmente fructífera al representar las particularidades tanto en contenido como de forma de esta literatura. Se emplean conceptos de la lingüística sistémica funcional para dar cuenta de la polifonía ubicua en el corpus. |
