Title:	Land conflict between the town of Santiago Undameo and the Augustinian Order, Michoacán, New Spain Conflicto territorial entre el pueblo de Santiago Undameo y la orden de los agustinos, Michoacán, Nueva España

Description:	This article analyzes the 18th-century territorial conflict between the native community of the town of Santiago Undameo and the Augustinian monks of Valladolid and Tiripetío. Documented legal disputes from the Archivo General de la Nación and the Archivo de la Provincia Agustiniana de Michoacán were analyzed; these were the sources with which cartography was elaborated using of Geographic Information System (GIS) tools. We observed how the studied conflict had different moments of territorial tension, originating from 16th-century land donations, and how it caused inaccuracies in the jurisdictional limits, the lack or disappearance of titles that accredited the property and the grabbing of land. In addition, it is argued that the ‘composiciones de tierra’ allowed the native communities to initiate processes for the recovery of their properties.  Este artículo analiza el conflicto por tierras en el siglo XVIII entre los indios del pueblo de Santiago Undameo y los religiosos agustinos de Valladolid y Tiripetío. Se analizaron documentos de litigios conservados en el Archivo General de la Nación y del Archivo de la Provincia Agustiniana de Michoacán; estos fueron las fuentes con las que se elaboró cartografía específica mediante el uso de herramientas de Sistema de Información Geográfica (SIG). Observamos cómo el conflicto estudiado tuvo distintos momentos de tensión territorial, originados desde las donaciones de tierras del siglo XVI, y cómo ocasionó imprecisiones en los límites jurisdiccionales, la falta o desaparición de títulos que acreditaron la propiedad y el acaparamiento de tierras. Además, se argumenta que las composiciones de tierras permitieron a los indios iniciar procesos para la recuperación de sus propiedades.
