between gender notions and sexual practices in school adolescents. The study included 693 male and female students from public high schools in Ciudad Juarez, Guadalajara, and Campeche (México). Sociodemographic variables, gender notions and sexual practices were evaluated. We found a significant difference in the prevalence of sexual intercourse in males and females, as well as a significant association between gender notions and the presence of sexual intercourse, contraceptive use, sexual intercourse with alcohol and number of sexual partners. We conclude that the notion of gender is a predictor of sexual practices in adolescents and, due to its sociocultural component, it is an issue that concerns educational and health institutions. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar la asociación entre las nociones de género y prácticas sexuales en adolescentes escolares. Se incluyeron 693 estudiantes, hombres y mujeres, de escuelas secundarias públicas de Ciudad Juárez, Guadalajara y Campeche (México). Se evaluaron variables sociodemográficas, nociones de género y práctica sexual. Encontramos una diferencia significativa en la prevalencia de relaciones sexuales entre hombres y mujeres, así como una asociación significativa entre las nociones de género con la presencia de relaciones sexuales, uso de anticonceptivos, relaciones sexuales con alcohol y número de parejas sexuales. Concluimos que la noción de género es un predictor de las prácticas sexuales en adolescentes, y por su componente sociocultural es un tema que nos compete a las instituciones educativas y de salud. |
