Title: | Migrant politics in local politics. Associations and political parties during Covid-19 pandemic in La Plata, Argentina La política migrante en la política local.
Description: | This article analyzes the links that organizations of Senegalese and Venezuelan migrants established during the Covid-19 pandemic with local, provincial and national state agencies, run by different political parties, in La Plata, capital of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Through interviews with community leaders and state officials, we seek to show how, in line with institutional logics developed during the last fifteen years, local party political dynamics influence the panorama of migrant association, and the tensions between the ruling party and opposition parties at different levels. We also examine the impact of interventions by other international or transnational institutions and organizations that operate locally, such as agencies from the state of origin, the Catholic Church, the International Red Cross, and others. |
