| Description: | Este artículo analiza el proceso inquisitorial llevado a cabo en 1760 contra Mariana de la Candelaria, una mulata acusada de brujería. A través de este trabajo buscamos adentrarnos en el ideal femenino vigente en la sociedad novohispana del momento, analizando las trasgresiones y rupturas de los valores y reglas morales establecidos y las sanciones impuestas desde el poder para combatir esas amenazas. Finalmente, pretendemos poner en evidencia cómo las características étnicas y socioeconómicas de la protagonista fueron determinantes en el desarrollo del proceso. Marginality, witchcraft and ethnicity in New Spain: Mariana de la Candelaria, a maleficent mulata in the eighteenth centuryThis article analyzes the inquisitorial trial carried out in 1760 against Mariana de la Candelaria, a mulata accused of witchcraft. Through this essay, we would like to approach the female ideal prevailing in colonial society during this period, the transgressions against established rules and moral values committed by some women, and the punishment imposes by power to combat these threats.
