Description:	This essay is a reflection on the nature and limits of social action based in the analysis of four paradoxes within contemporary society having to do with the representation of cultural minorities in the democratic system; the development of sustainable projects; the international mobility of people; and the scope of political action itself. These paradoxes are, largely, a product of the anchoring of globalization in specific places having their own particular history, geographic and economic circumstances, in the face of which local actors are impelled to formulate responses in order to improve their life circumstances. El objetivo de este ensayo es repensar los cauces y los límites de la acción social (agencia) a partir de cuatro paradojas que se presentan actualmente y que están relacionadas con las distintas problemáticas en que se hallan inmersos los actores locales, tales como la representación de las minorías culturales en el sistema democrático, el desarrollo de proyectos sustentables, la movilidad internacional de las personas y los alcances mismos de la acción política. Además, en el ensayo se verá que dichas paradojas son producto del anclaje de la globalización en lugares específicos, con historias y circunstancias particulares que incitan a los actores a generar soluciones para mejorar sus condiciones de vida.
