| Description: | This text opens with a critical analysis of the main problems facing Mexico’s penitentiary system. Next it considers educational opportunities for incarcerated people in Mexico to focus on the specific case experienced by the authors of this article through the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program in the Reclusorio Metropolitano in Puente Grande, Jalisco during the first semester of 2017. The text ends with reflections regarding the possible reach of Inside-Out in Mexico and the general importance of education to reduce the high rates of recidivism and the context of delinquency that favors crime. Este texto inicia con un análisis crítico de los principales problemas en el sistema penitenciario en México. Enseguida, aborda el tema de las ofertas educativas para las personas privadas de la libertad en el país, para llegar a una presentación del caso específico vivido por los autores de este artículo, mediante el Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program en el Reclusorio Metropolitano de Puente Grande, Jalisco, durante el primer semestre de 2017. El texto termina con algunas reflexiones respecto al posible alcance de Inside-Out en Latinoamérica y, en general, sobre la importancia de la educación para combatir las altas tasas de reincidencia y el contexto de delincuencia que favorece el delito. |
