Title:	Más allá de Habermas: la realidad de los medios de comunicación

Description:	There is a fundamental need for including the role of the mass media in any theory of democracy; but it is even more important in a theory that claims as its essential element deliberation within the public sphere of free and equal citizens. In this paper I will argue that the mass media follows the system rationality, is becoming more independent and complex, and –together with the administrative and economic subsystems– is increasingly subordinating the spaces of the lifeworld to the system logic. The task though will be to provide, within the deliberative theory of democracy, a theoretical framework for the analysis of the mass media in order to offer practical paths in this specific area for the emancipation of the lifeworld from the system logic. Existe una necesidad fundamental de incluir a los medios de comunicación en cualquier teoría de la democracia, pero es todavía más importante en una teoría que requiere, como su elemento esencial, la deliberación de ciudadanos libres e iguales en la esfera pública. En este ensayo sostengo que los medios de comunicación siguen la racionalidad sistémica, se están volviendo más independientes y complejos, y –junto con los subsistemas económico y administrativo– están subordinando los espacios del mundo de la vida a la lógica sistémica. La tarea será proveer, a la teoría de la democracia deliberativa, de una estructura teórica para el análisis de los medios con el fin de ofrecer caminos prácticos para la emancipación del mundo de la vida de la lógica sistémica.
