| Descripción: | This paper presents a comparison of articles using the term “hybrid material”. Hybrid materials are widely used in health sciences; nonetheless, the term hybrid is misused. In most of the scientific article “hybrid materials” is considered as the solely mixture of organic and inorganic components. However the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry —iupac— has well defined this term based on the covalent union of the components within a material. With this comparison we aim to clarify to the reader the two forms this term is used to achieve a better interpretation and understand of the literature. This comparison was made with the purpose of analyzing the use and understanding of the different definitions of hybrid materials as well as the definition stablished by the iupac. Este trabajo presenta una comparación de artículos en los cuales se usa el término “material híbrido”. Los materiales híbridos tienen una amplia gama de aplicaciones en ciencias de la salud; sin embargo, el uso del término “híbrido” se ha referido en la mayoría de los artículos científicos a la mezcla de componentes orgánicos e inorgánicos, siendo que la Unión Internacional de Química Pura y Aplicada (iupac, por sus siglas en inglés) tiene definido este término con base en la unión covalente entre los componentes en un material. Con esta comparación se pretende aclarar a los lectores las dos formas en que se interpreta este concepto para mejorar el entendimiento de la literatura. |
