dc.description	This article offers a reflection on the political order and corruption in Nueva Galicia through the case of Santiago de Vera, president of the Audiencia of Guadalajara between 1593 and 1605. En order to do this, I present new readings of the available textual sources, such as the visit of Judge Paz de Vallecillo and Vera's own letters to the Council of the Indies. Hence, I analyze the subject, not from the difference between the public and the private – typical of the modern Staten – but from the negotiation between the different instances, especially in terms of maintaining the confidence of the Crown and, in some cases, of the population itself.	en-US
dc.description	Este artículo reflexiona sobre el orden político y la corrupción en Nueva Galicia a través del caso de Santiago de Vera, presidente de la Audiencia de Guadalajara entre 1593 y 1605. Para ello, se presentan nuevas lecturas de las fuentes documentales disponibles, como la visita completa del juez Paz de Vallecillo y las cartas del propio Vera al Consejo de Indias. Con ellas, se analiza el tema, no desde la diferencia entre lo público y lo privado – propia del Estado moderno – sino a partir de la negociación entre las diferentes instancias, especialmente respecto de la preservación de la confianza de la Corona y, en algunos casos, de la población misma.	es-ES
